# Web App

The Town web app at [town.com](/content/site-root.html) is the full workspace for Tasks, Need to Know, routines, approvals, integrations, and account settings.

## What you can do

### Home and Need to Know

Home gives you a quick scan of what matters now:

- Need to Know items your assistant thinks may need attention
- Tasks with unread activity or upcoming follow-up
- Pending approvals
- Recent routine runs and quick actions
- A Schedule view of your upcoming events, pulled from all your subscribed calendars, with per-calendar toggles so you control which calendars appear

When a Need to Know item needs action, create a task from it so the context stays attached.

### Tasks

Use Tasks to manage follow-up work:

- Review unread task activity
- Open a task’s assistant thread and source context
- Create, edit, complete, delete, or schedule tasks
- Continue a task with a message to your assistant

### Routines

View and manage all your routines:

- **Stock routines** — Enable, configure, and customize
- **Custom routines** — Create new automations
- **Team Routines** — Install and manage routines shared by your team
- **Run history** — See what happened and when
- **Settings** — Adjust triggers, tools, and modes

### Integrations

Connect and manage external services:

- Google Workspace, Town & Messaging, and app integrations from the [integration directory](/content/docs/integrations/index.html)
- Custom integrations via MCP servers

### Settings

Configure your Town account:

- Assistant name and email
- Connected accounts
- Notification preferences
- MCP server configuration

### Approvals

When routines are in approval-required mode:

- See pending approval requests
- Review proposed actions
- Approve or reject with one click
- View approval history

## Navigation

The main navigation includes:

- **Home** — Dashboard overview
- **Tasks** — Work that needs follow-through
- **Routines** — Manage automations
- **Integrations** — Connect apps
- **Settings** — Account configuration

### Routine detail

Click any routine to see:

- **Overview** — Status and settings
- **Runs** — Execution history
- **Configuration** — Edit triggers, tools, logic
- **Versions** — History of changes

## Creating routines

Two ways to create routines from the web app:

### Talk to your assistant

1. Click **Create** or type in the composer
2. Describe what you want
3. Iterate with your assistant until it looks right
4. Test with a dry run
5. Create when satisfied

### Manual configuration

1. Click **Create** → **Blank template**
2. Fill in all settings manually
3. Configure triggers, tools, and logic
4. Save and enable

## Monitoring runs

The run history shows:

- **Status** — Completed, failed, pending approval
- **Trigger** — What started the run
- **Actions** — What the routine did
- **Timing** — When it ran and how long

Click any run to see:

- Full action log
- Tool calls and results
- Reasoning trace (if enabled)
- Errors and warnings

## Team activity

Town Square and Team Routines help teams coordinate around shared assistant work:

- Review team routines and shared routine installs
- See activity from team spaces your account belongs to
- Use shared integrations and settings where your team has configured them
- Reuse proven routine patterns instead of rebuilding them from scratch

Check run history regularly, especially for new routines. It helps you understand behavior and catch issues early.

## Managing approvals

When a routine needs approval:

1. You’ll see a notification in the web app
2. Go to **Approvals** to see pending requests
3. Review the proposed action
4. Click **Approve** or **Reject**

Approved actions execute immediately. Rejected actions are skipped.

## Version history

Every routine change creates a version:

- See what changed and when
- Compare versions
- Restore previous configurations

Access version history from the routine’s **Versions** tab.

## Best practices

**Use the web app for setup.** Initial configuration is easier with the full interface.

**Review runs after changes.** After modifying a routine, check the next few runs to verify behavior.

**Keep the approvals page bookmarked.** If you use approval-required mode, check approvals regularly.

## Mobile access

The web app works on mobile browsers. While not as polished as a native app, you can:

- Review and update tasks
- Review routine status
- Approve pending actions
- Check run history
- Make quick adjustments

For most mobile interactions, emailing your assistant is faster.
